Russia says Ukraine has attacked a third bridge in the Kursk region captured by Ukrainian forces almost two weeks ago.
Otherwise, the news comes after Ukraine hit and damaged another bridge over the Seym River on Sunday.
Details of the latest bridge attack were revealed in a statement by a representative of Russia’s investigative committee, which was posted on the Telegram channel of Russian state television anchor Vladimir Solovyov, foreign media reports, Telegraph reports.
A Ukrainian commander said Sunday that its air force had destroyed a strategic bridge over the Seym River in the Kursk region — the second attacked by Ukraine since Friday — limiting the supply capacity of a Russian group opposing the Ukrainian advance.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has put Vladimir Putin “in a position he never dreamed of in his worst nightmares,” former British foreign secretary Malcolm Rifkind told Sky News.
Asked whether the invasion of the Russian territory of Kursk had been a game-changer in the two-year war between Russia and Ukraine, Mr Rifkind said: “It is not in itself something that will defeat Russia.”
“But this puts Putin in a position he never dreamed of in his worst nightmares…”
Rifkind, who was foreign secretary under former prime minister John Major, continued: “Putin has always been proud that what he does is provide security for Russia.”
“Well this war has been a disaster for him, the change in NATO has been the membership of Sweden and Finland, which they had never done for almost 70 years, and now he finds parts of Russia occupied by Ukrainians.”
